Topic Hub

The first part of a complete redesign of the American Medical Association's (AMA) is a Topic Hub that collects relevant news articles, resources and media based upon the page's topic. The goal is to frame all of the content produced by the AMA into topics that meet the specific needs of different medical specialties, professionals' roles and current trends.

Using Atomic Design principles, my process began with hand sketching different components after doing market research on best in class media sites.

After the sketch phase, I took the designs into Axure and began wiring the different components that will eventually be used on the Topic Page. This is an example of the different Article components.

We had a unique situation where we also needed to incorporate news articles and other media from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that works separately from the AMA but is also a part of the company. I worked with their creative team to design components that used their branding to give them more of a feature any time they appear on the Topic Pages.

Different Topic Page layouts were created and I worked with business partners from the Content, Analytics and Development teams to isolate three that can be used for use cases.

Where We're At Now

The first of a series of Topic Pages was launched on November 1st and can be viewed here. Next steps will include discovery to find ways to incorporate components that exist elsewhere on the site into the Topic Page template.
